I love studying military history. And I know the story of Pearl Harbor quite well. Even still, I found myself gripped by this well-paced and thoroughly researched series that does justice to this critical event in American history.
Watching a "Downton" movie is like sitting down with old friends who I haven't seen for years. It's obvious the actors enjoy making these films and enjoy begin with each other because their positive energy radiates on screen. I believe this second movie is stronger and better written than the first, and I hope the title of "A New Era" indicates more films are in the planning stages. So many more stories can be told of this engaging group of British citizens in the 1930s. That said, the movie isn't perfect. LIke the TV series, a few plot lines are left unfinished or feel a bit rushed. And the shortened timeframe of the movie allows little time to develop the sub-characters as well as the TV series. But a fun and rewarding movie nonetheless.
It's rare to find a shoe that we feel comfortable watching with our entire family and that engages everyone. This is one of those rare shows. The pacing keeps interest high, and the storyline took surprising turns. We were all excited to keep watching. Highly recommend.
