I have loved the first 2 series so wondered if the 3rd series was going to be as good. Not to worry.... Tom has written another blinder!!! The series kicks off wonderfully but this is my favourite. The pace is amazing throughout and its is so funny. I love each and everyone of the family....the warmth, the interactions, it's all so good. The acting is superb...the chemistry between them all makes them believable and real. Thoroughly enjoyed this...and so pleased to see Pavel Douglas who I last saw as Lady Jane's husband in Lovejoy!! Robert Glenister in a later, equally enjoyable episode, is fantastic. Well done everyone. Great to see you all again. Please say there's a 4th series on the cards!!
Firstly, Angie Dickinson...my god, she is absolutely stunning. She is mesmeric on TV...I love watching her. The chemistry between her and her Co star Earl Holiman is authentic and lovely. This episode was good but scarily mimics the life a little of Bob Crane, a DJ in this. Hogan's Heroes wasn't shown much in the UK here so I had to look him up. Quite a messy private life which involved filming sex scenes, which is what is happening to his wife in this episode. Did he suggest it or did the scriptwriters know about his private life?? Anyway, not a bad episode but the very end eith the boats is really daft. But Angie comes out of the water looking magnificent...think I'm in love!!!
Like the other reviewer here, the plot is a mystery...all about transistor radios, Portuguese fish soup and crates. You wonder what all the fuss is about over one crate but what a delight this show is. Peyer Wyngarde is effortlessly flamboyant with those shirt cuffs turned back over his suit arms and massive knots in his tie. He truly lights the screen up!!! There are so many actors here in their younger years...Ronald Lacey, Anthony Valentine, John Ronane, Patrick Mower ( is he really 87 now??!!). It's all rather wonderful, high late 60s/early 70s delight with a banging them tune! Department S is so much better than The Champions and The Protectors....what a shame they didn't make more. Definitely worth watching. I would like someone to tell me why they coloured the lips of all the actors in this!!??
