I read every Asterix comic as a kid. I absolutely loved this. The animation was colourful, clean and well done and remained fairly true to the original character designs.
While I haven't read the comics recently I am pretty certain they took some liberties to modernise it, most likely to appeal to a more general audience, but I did not mind those changes. Overall the story and jokes were very fun.
I also like that they split it up into a mini series, so we were able to watch it over 2 days, So it was more easily digestible than a full length movie.
I do feel like the English dubbing could have been better, but thats what you get with dubbings.
I hope they make more as there is heaps of source material in the Asterix IP.

You know what. I liked it. Was it a masterpiece? Nope not at all. But not every movie needs to be. Some days you just want to be entertained and this movie does the trick. Sure it was corny and predictable, but sometimes you want that in a film.
But it also held my attention for the entire run time - which is kinda impressive considering my short attention span (normally I'd be on my phone after the first 30mins or so).
Plus the dragon was brilliant. I loved everything about it. It's design and animation was cool and Shohreh Aghdashloo's voice was perfect fit for the dragon - Gravelly, but still matronly and feminine.
If you like female heroines kicking butt, dragons, fantasy and pretty special effects and just want some mindless entertainment - give it a try.

It's been a while since I watched an anime like this. One that didn't rely on standard anime tropes (you know... the same kinds of characters, saying the same kinds of things, telling you the story instead of showing etc... you know, bog standard anime stuff).
I've only watched the first episode so far and it's one of the best 1st anime episodes I've seen in a long time. The art style and animation is fantastic.
I Can't wait to watch the rest, but even if you only watch the first episode it's worth it for that alone (the first episode would work perfectly as a stand alone short story).
If more anime was like this I'd be a much bigger weeb than I am (I'm just a casual weeb atm).
