I don't really know what I was expecting after having sat through so many airline hi-jack films but this was definitely a cut above the rest. Even if the outcome was always going to be the good guys win, the finale was still enthralling. The only downside was the fact that both pilots wore glasses. The fact that one of the pilots is married to one of the stewardesses makes for an interesting subplot. For actors I'd never heard of I thought he quality of the acting was good and contributed well to the angst. All in all it was one of the best hi-jack films I've watched in the last ten years. A must watch. You won't be disappointed; I certainly wasn't.
L'île prisonnière started well which made me want to watch the other five episodes. Unfortunately, like a lot of other short series, it was too long and spun out and therefore lacking the intensity and emotion needed to keep the viewer involved. The whole thing could have been shot in two hours. I know Brittany is beautiful but you sometimes had the impression that you were watching a promotional movie for the Brittany tourist office. You can only use beautiful scenery up to a certain point. This and disparate acting skills and a lot of plot inconsistencies and incoherences with a predictable ending made watching the other 5 episodes hard going.
Let me start by saying that I enjoyed the theme and I did manage to get to the end. I won't dwell on the number of bullets a Schmeisser doesn't have but it was one of the many incongruences that spoiled an otherwise, potentially good series. What really spoilt it for me was the terrible music which accompanied all six episodes, saved by a brief incursion into the world of Zorba the Greek. Not only was it an inappropriate choice but WAY TOO LOUD. Apart from the terrible music, the plot wasn't that bad but a little pathetic by Hollywood standards. Anyway, it would be nice to see a remake of this movie with better acting, good filming and editing and someone who knows what they're doing in the sound department.
