"The most expensive production in TV history feels like amateur theater" (quote: Politiken)
And they were right. While the music is fine and the larger scenes are down right stunning, everything else is ranging from bad to worse.
The story is fragmented, dialogue is ackward and several of "the important scenes" are really cringy.
Characters are overall unlikable, motivations are lacking and the wondrous feel of the fantasy races and exalted lords and ladies of Middle Earth that we got in Lord of the Rings, are completely lacking.
The cast is - bad. No other way to put it. Gone are Ian McKellan, Kate Blanchett and Christopher Lee - and RoP does not hold a single actor up to their standards.
Even 1/2 their standards would have been a vast improvement.
Costume Department. Oh boy. From the scene at the town square with the crowd dressed in what looks like leftovers from a greco-roman themed LARP to the card board armor of Galadriel. How those things even got on stage is a mystery to me.
It's not Tolkien. I've been trying to watch it as a run of the mill fantasy production, but that isn't helping either.
It's bad. After episode 1-2 I still had a little hope for improvement but this is like salvaging the Moskva - it demands a total rebuild, not a new coat of paint.

Gave this movie 1 star - only for lack of negative stars. They have taken, possibly the worst actors known to man, located them in some castle (with all kinds of modern day give-aways) and dressed them in a mix of cheap roleplay costumes and stuff from a junk sale. Effects looks like they were made by children as well as the 'combat' sequences that are slow AND incompetent. The actors are completely blank both, in action- and talking scenes and the storyline is utter crap. A more satisfactory use of your time could be reorganizing your sock drawer or counting the dust bunnies under the couch.....
Decent cop show "off the rack", guns, guilt and crime - that sounds not too bad. The characters are mildly interesting but regretfully lack any real commitment - probably caused by a generally flat script. Usually "swat-shows" always have the swat-element to fall back on - it takes no real acting skill or advanced script. Unfortunately they have also failed to get the real professional "Special Response Unit" feel, they don't know their weaponry, neither choice, names or use and most look like they have never handled a gun before. That said they DO manage to get in a good scene or 2 and some of the plots are actually good. Watch it if it rains and nothing else is on.....
