  • How married people view virgins

This movie kind of hits home for me because I'm kind of almost in the category like this movie. I'm not a virgin but I'm not going crazy with many women and I never married and I'm in my 40s.

I want to add that every actor and actress in this movie was married at the time of this movie. And so it just happens that many of them act out how they view 40 year old virgins and how they might be like. I want to say in the early 2000s it was a bit uncommon to find a man in his 40s who never been with a woman. In 1980 statistically speaking only 5% of men in their 40s never married even once. By 2000s the number trended to a not common but common enough at 10%. By today in 2025 that number reached 25% of men in their 40s reached age 40 who never married once. I would imagine a large portion of that number probably also never had sex and are virgins.

With that said this movie kind of got those people wrong. When I saw this movie originally I was barely 20 years old and I thought the movie was strange then. How or why anyone would think it's wrong but even then why anyone would think a virgin in his 40s would act this way. Now fast forward to when I reached 40 and still never married but not a virgin I watched this movie again and saw so many things it done wrong to stereotype older men who may not have been married or even been with a girl yet.

Overall I feel that as men in society we are sort of expected to act and behave a certain way. Steve was born in a time when it was slightly unheard of for a man to reach his 40s and never married. In social standards they were probably limited in some ways that prevented them from marrying. So it is understandable when Steve took the role he probably thought someone who was a 40 year old virgin would have a lot of problems with their personal lives.

  • It's okay but it really falls apart

I don't think Seagal is the star of this film. It seems like the two actors and one actress are the main story of this film.

The movie's plot kind of there but not really. From what I can gather about it they were going for Seagal is providing sniper cover for this group of people but somehow they had to leave and left Seagal behind. The movie is sort of about them going back to rescue Seagal. At least I think because there's this whole other plot about a hostage trade that somehow materialized out of no where. Then Seagal sort of pops out at the end to save everyone and take all the credit.

Since the movie is rather incoherent, let me try to just summarize some random thoughts about it:

    • Seagal sits nearly 80% of his scene. From what I recall we only seen him stand maybe about 4 scenes and it's him just standing in one place. The rest is a stunt double that walks around.

    • nearly everyone goes over the top with anything. Even small things turn into huge arguments about some grand scheme of things. Like this guy gets blinded and instead of just being hauled away he insists he can walk... yet nothing about his ability to walk come into question.

    • so many military lingo and jargons used it makes it impossible to follow anything. Like at the start they're on the radio going this is dog bite going to sector Lima wait for exfil copy on the braco victor charlie.

    • nobody seems to care about anyone despite the movie is about being left behind. Like someone gets killed and guess what? Nobody cares. Seems like Seagal cares this one dude can't walk and talks about how he reminds him of his brother then at the end of the movie Seagal seems to not care about him.

    • the sniper rifle Seagal used at the start is never seen again. Did it break or something?

    • despite them "saving" Seagal it seems like it was Seagal who somehow saved them all.

    • why did they go back to town to trade this girl with this terrorist leader that we have no idea about until literally the last 5 minutes? Couldn't they have just sneaked out of there?

    • Seagal radios back to the base and this guy acts like it is urgent but then nobody does anything at all. Again going back to my original statement it seems like nobody cares about anyone yet they try their best to rescue them?

Overall the movie is a huge mess. It's one of the movies I was looking forward to watching as it's one of Seagal's worst film to date where he sat down for the movie. The other actors and actresses really did the movie and made it kind of watchable but mostly nonsensical plot and completely incoherently carried our.
