IWatchTooManyDamnShows's rating
Just finished the last episode. While The River is definitely not a great show, I still enjoyed it quite a bit.
Yeah, it has a lot of Blair Witch camera going crazy moments. Also some so-so acting from certain people. But let's ignore that for a bit.
So the premise. Man gets lost in the Amazon under mysterious circumstances, let's go look for him and see what crazy stuff (he and) we get to see along the way. The show is shot a la Blair Witch, where we the viewers see what the camera(men) film who are also on the boat.
I kind of like the "lost footage" trope, so that is a plus for me. However I agree it can become a bit tiresome during action scenes, especially if you watch the entire show in a binge.
I would not say this show is a horror, more a mystery bubble type of series like Lost (not as good though) but it definitely also has its creepy moments because of the things that happen along the way.
I really liked the mixture of magic/horror/science fiction. They had me fully engaged for most all of the run. Actually surprised me multiple times as well.
It's sort of a mid tier Star Trek, but instead of exploring space they are doing so in a mysterious part of (mostly) uninhabited Amazon.
It's only 8 episodes unfortunately, but the ending we were given on the last episode actually works for this show. So you get a complete storyline to boot.
This was a high 7 for me.

This series was a lot more interesting at the beginning when you are left wondering who killed the 2 girls.
Once they slowly give answers, between numerous scenes of the main character looking really really sad, that is when they started to lose me.
Not only because the series was dragging it out. Also because apparantly to stop people from guessing who the real murderer is, they thought up one of the more convulated and unrealistic explanations I have seen. It made no sense whatsoever.
I almost gave this series a 6. But they did keep me interested enough to keep watching, although I was seriously wishing for it to end by episode 9 or 10.
Acting wise and the production values are also ok. My main gripe is with the resolution of the story and the very slow pace. So a low 7.

What a refreshing and original anime.
Ever wanted to see a severed head, a half-Oni, and a kick-ass maid solve supernatural crimes? Neither did I, but damn I really liked this series.
The main characters are interesting from the first episode on. I mean the group is so unique, that it's almost impossible to not be intrigued where this show is gonna go.
The action vs actual detective work time ratio is favoured heavily towards the latter, some people might say that's "boring". I think that actually gives more time to the actual interesting part of the story: the mystery.
Mind you, the battle scenes which do happen are amazing. The anime looks spectactular throughout with top artwork, with some very original scenes at times as well. It's not just the cast which makes this anime unique.
The biggest negative? It's only 1 season (so far) we've only been given the beginning of this story; with a very open ending. Very much looking forward to more.
