Considering the low budget, I've seen much worse. The acting is average to sketchy. The story and action scenes are beyond cringeworthy. Its got some decent gore if you like that stuff. The social commentary is very typical of any modern horror film; all the white people are evil, the minorities are violently oppressed even though they are meek hearted and full of goodness, the woman will absolutely kick your rear end from one end of the earth to the next. However, if you just want to have some fun watching jerks get butchered in the style of I Spit On Your Grave, this might be your jam. The dramatic ending was some stellar cringe.
That about sums it up. The setting is an awesome dark forest full of creepy shadows, odd noises, rickety bridges over dark waters, and old folk legends. It captures a creepy vibe quite well. After that this film does not offer much. I would guess most watchers will feel like nothing ever really happened. The voice overdubs are a deal breaker, I can't believe I finished it. Yes it does have a heavy Blair Witch Vibe. It's Meh.
I don't understand all the negative reviews. Yes this one is slow with very little action. Yet, the story is thought provoking and well acted. The fun part is the ethical questions you are challenged with. This film is not horror or thriller, but it's a great drama. I recommend you try it some night when you are feeling contemplative. I spent quite a bit of time thinking about the characters and the questions raised in this story, which to me indicates a great film.
