Having grown up in a tough neighbourhood I can tell you that this movie has some serious authentic tones to it and is well acted. Don't listen to the second-hand POVs of some critics on here who don't have a clue. The backs against the wall desperation to live life, valuing of getting money for yourself over the life of others, the sensitive egos, the struggle of youths, the struggles of parents, drugs, money, girls, gangs, the never ending cycle and how's perpetuated by an unforgiving system that's holds people hostage. It's all there. While some people don't get the point of the movie, I thought it was clear. Showcasing the system, the cycle and the struggle and how kids, who are born a clean slate, get drawn into it and corrupted by no choice of their own. Powerful movie and the main characters were effective in making it real.
Based on true events this film really captures the real life struggles for freedom around the world (in this case South Africa) and effectively showcases the emotion and meaning behind it. The acting is powerful and the story gritty. The main characters did well and the movie makes you reflect on world affairs. Thabo Rametsi did so well in this film as the lead actor. "What is the price of freedom, everything!"
Thank God for the work of Robert Billot. Not only combatting an evil corporate giant and fighting for the good of humanity, but was also persecuted, hated on and shunned as he challenged humanity's engrained shortsightedness and their never ending focus on the next pay cheque. This movie captures this journey and the struggle with supreme accuracy and was so well made. Kudos to Mark Ruffalo - so well done. One of the best environmental movies I've seen and based on a true story that changed lives and humanity forever.
