Nightwatch is an enjoyable and interesting, creepy mystery-type horror/comedy that has engaging characters and eventful story.
Martin takes on a seemingly simple job as overnight security guard in a morgue, where he anticipates easy money for in his own words 'sitting on his arse'. With no one alive to bother him catching up on study, he sees it as an ideal opportunity to sort both his financial woes and education, but things become anything but easy as very strange incidents begin to take place and go so far as to put his very well-being under serious threat.
He is an agreeable character to engage with, along with his whacky friends, particularly Jens, whom with he unavoidably gets into social pickles during their not-so-great choices in life. The retiring nightwatch is also a quirky and mysterious figure, as is Wormer the cop and Joyce, Kalinka and Lotte make good contributions.
I really enjoyed the mix of humour with calamity as it's done very well by all involved and the story gets more intense, with some great set pieces and surprises. Backed up by a decent script and situational assuredness, Nightwatch is definitely a good watch, especially at night.

Considering this was made when movies were still done in studios and controlled environments, it's refreshing to see much of The Omen's scenes were taken outdoors amidst the elements. Also worthy of note is the creativity and adaptability of the cast and crew to work well with unpredictable conditions such as weather, lighting and audio quality.
The story itself however, isn't pleasant subject matter, but the movie is excellently made, about a young boy, Damien, who is the son of Satan, come to inflict complete chaos on earth. The unknowing adoptive parents, at first think their newfound family unit will bring them immense happiness, but things turn treacherous very quickly and the movie dishes out its intended sinister and bleak scenarios.
As a horror instalment it ticks a few boxes, with the demise of folk therein being effectively gruesome, but largely it doesn't deliver on actual scares, relying mostly on shock value. The dark religious undertones I also don't favour in horrors, but there are some genuinely creditable set pieces that made watching quite entertaining.

Being a boat admirer I was drawn into this movie, Triangle. Along with the impressive vessels herein, the scenery also is engaging but the aesthetic value isn't backed up with character interest and the story gets more muddled without reaching a point of clarity. Neither enthralling or easy for me to follow, or have any reason for wanting to, this movie wanders and meanders, with its finale resembling a deflated balloon.
Violence is this movie's main focus, aboard an old luxury liner, where the cast are killed off by a masked figure, whose identity is later 'revealed' but I fancy many will know who it is well before their unveiling. Not with much creativity, the kills are pedestrian albeit bloody and extreme in their physicality. Melissa George though, does particularly well with her fight scenes and valiantly does her best portraying a single mum of an autistic boy, even though her character is listless, at times over emotional and then strangely devoid of emotion in other sections.
The mystery and reveals didn't grab me and unfortunately I didn't connect with this movie. I think it's a good effort to create something that is meant to keep us guessing with its angle switches and in its attempt to bring us original and surprising content. For me however, these aspects aren't successfully reached and I lost interest in its second half. But as I said, a good try.
