The Strip

The Strip

  • One of New Zealands few successful comedies

The Strip follows the life of Melissa – a happily married lawyer with a sixteen-year-old daughter whose life fell into disarray in one day when she discovered her husband, Glenn was having an affair with another man and her daughter Paige was experimenting with bulimia. What to do? Well of course – get rid of the husband, drop the job, move out with the daughter and…buy a strip club! Throughout the show we get to learn all about Melissa, Paige, Glenn, Melissa's kooky mother, Leslie and her wayward friend Kath, not to mention a mysterious stripper Adam, that Mel has her eye on. Other, more minor characters also keep the tempo upbeat and amusing. Terrific fantasy sequences can be found in the show, which are, quite frankly, a billion times funnier than those of the waning show Ally McBeal. The Strip is nothing short of a hilarious show made even better high quality acting and dancing. Don't be disillusioned by Shortland Street – The Strip proves that not only can we make quality drama in New Zealand; we can make quality comedy too.
