I just saw this last night (joined Netflix, sounded like a decent movie to get). At times, it was a very difficult movie to watch, not because it was bad...but because it was real. Having lost a loved one to complications from AIDS, I can attest that the emotions that are shown are real. The only problem I had w/ the movie was the cliches: roommate freaking out, mom not wanting Bridget to play w/ kid, etc. Yet, many of the emotions that Amanda Peet & Michael Vartan expressed in their superb acting performances are incredibly real...it is that painful to realize you have contracted a disease that will cost you your life. You do pull away from intimacy, and cloud your pain w/ alcohol. Overall, I'd give 3 1/2 out of 5 stars. The writing was at times weak, but the performances make up for it. I recommend everyone see this movie- it may make you understand the disease better, and re-evaluate your life.
You won't be surprised by anything in this movie other than maybe how funny Prinze can be. And, perhaps the most objectionable aspect is the love interest character. Biel has so much on screen charisma, I was disappointed in how trite her character was. It seemed the only words that came out of her mouth were straight from a self-help book. Nonetheless, this movie was an enjoyable 2 hours. The baseball was a little unbelievable, the characters were pretty standard, but the casting was UNBELIEVABLE. Matthew Lilliard is the perfect goofy hotshot. Wilmer Valderamma is the perfect naive all star. Even Marc Blucas, who frankly was a mannequin on Buffy, turns in a great comic performance. If you are looking for a fun, no-brainer movie then this is the movie for you. If you walk in expecting genius, you aren't going to get it.
okay, so this isnt a GREAT show or anything..but it is a lot of fun...kinda like "passions"..the story line is obvious, most of the performances are to be expected of the unexperienced cast..but a few do stand out..shawn batten is great! so are a couple other perfs. watch spyder games if you want a little escapism..not to watch a show that will win any awards.
