Considering that this movie wasn't made to compete with Disney's line-up of Lion King, Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast, etc..., it is an excellent movie. Who would've thought that a simple animation could do so much. This is a good movie to watch with friends and family members of all ages. Also, if you want a good night's innocent laugh, this movie is recommended. This is the first good family film I've seen since "A Bug's Life." Just a little note on the side: can you believe that this movie that absolutely NO romantic plot (one of the first and only that I've seen of Disney animations).
Had this movie taken on another title, or be a modern version of the novel, I would've been more forgiving. Let me repeat again: this movie does not reflect Jane Austen's Mansfield Park, neither does the main character portray Fanny Price in the least bit.
For those who have never read Mansfield Park, this book Austen's "virtuest" novel. Generally people don't like Fanny because she is too modest.
Fanny Price is an exceptional character. Her modesty can never be properly portrayed by Hollywood. So I hope that no one will try to make another movie out of this novel. I love Pride and Prejudice as much as I love this novel, but this novel is far different from P&P. P&P can be captured on screen without boring out the audiences but MP cannot. Nevertheless, this does not make the novel any less valuable.
Fanny Price may not be as attractive as Elizabeth Bennet. But if these characters existed in real life, I would trust Fanny over Elizabeth any day. As witty as Elizabeth is, her judgement is faulty (as a result, the 2nd half of the title is called "prejudice"). She cannot discern who Wickham is, and believed in his good appearance. Fanny is just the opposite: her intuition is un-mistakable. Who, except for Fanny, knew that the handsome Henry Crawford was un-trustworthy?

I recommend this movie only to those who have read the book "Pride and Prejudice" by Jane Austen. If you have not read the novel, this mini tv-series will still be enjoyable but not as meaningful.
The best part about watching movies that are based on classic novels is watching the characters that you've read about come alive, and comparing them from novel to screen. It gives so much pleasure when the two match each other. It is like having your imagination become real.
This movie is my all-time favourite. I've seen this movie many times now and I still love it. The film plays out the novel in detail and accurately without boring you.
Every main character is acted out in depths so that they become so real. I especially love Darcy and Elizabeth. Lady Catherine De Berg is played wonderfully, altogether proud and not as condescending as she claims to be. And Mr. Colins makes you want to vommit as much as the novel did.
If you are a fan of Jane Austen, you MUST watch this movie. This movie is quite long (6 parts - 5 hours total), but totally worth it.
