The sterling performance of Vidya Balan in Parineeta and Kahaani made me expect something extraordinary in this movie. It is quite plausible that the director was tied down to a particular direction of narrative. I could see shades of her Silk Smitha character in this movie. I feel that the choice of Sanya to play Anupama was wrong. She is too much Punjabi to play the offspring of a Bengali and a Kannada. The whole story went on predictable lines even though I was careful not to read Shakuntala Devi's bio!
The movie travels very well and has the required twists and turns. It is quite unbelievable that the protagonist does not take her husband's help in locating the child. Also the Doctor seems to have been deliberately inserted to give the story a twist. Interesting movie!
A good movie about some poor, some needy, some rich & sone scheming people. The common thread is that all are greedy to convert something that belongs to somebody else into money. The character of Mirza as a scheming man who is out there to covert anything that he can and his hands on to money has been executed well by the Master Actor Amitabh Bachhan. I like the regal elegance of the Begum who gave the old man a lot to time to mend his ways and decided to let him go when she realizes that he is waiting for her to die. Shoojit Sircar has shown once again that he can make off-beat interesting!
