Suspect Zero has an intriguing plot that should have been better protected. Because the plot outline in the Cable TV spot gave away the first surprise. So I started watching it knowing already an important premise. Even so, it looks like the plot is too complex and shouldn't have been told in such a "videoclipesque" fashion. Of course there are some facts to realize along the film but it's almost impossible to follow how the FBI agent starts to go on the right track. That's probably because the actor lacked charisma. Even Kingsley was over sometimes. I agree that if one should watch a second time looking for the details it should enjoy better but for me it seems they've not explored the full potential of the theme.
What stroke me the most about Hotel Rwanda was the option made by the writer and director of not using too much scenes of violence as we are used to see in a movie. The situation in itself was already so strong that we didn't need tons of blood splattered all over. They told a very violent history focusing on the human drama, the doubts, hopes, envy and so on. The most dramatic scenes were always happening from a certain distance. That made the film even stronger. It's a nice example of how it is possible to make movies about violent themes with sense and sensibility. I believe this movie should be shown in every second grade schools around the world in order to make us never forget how the West can be cruel with those countries where there is no oil or diamonds or gold...
I've heard a lot from Almodovar's new feature and I went to watch it expecting something at least as good as All About my Mother. Some critics even said this one was better. But I was thoroughly disappointed at the end.
From the very start the story seems weird. The passion of that nurse for the ballet girl was very unlikely. He was more of a fan than an actual lover. The characters were not really interesting and I didn't get envolved with them. Too long dance scenes seemed to fit better in a Carlos Saura movie.
I stick with All about my mother and El Matador as Almodovar's best of the best.
