Inheritance feels like it was made on a modest budget, but that actually works in its favor. The handheld, action-cam style gives it a gritty, immersive feel without being distracting. The story is fine; nothing groundbreaking, but it holds your attention, and the ending ties it all together nicely. The cast delivers solid performances, and the locations are visually interesting. But the real standout is the soundtrack. Seriously impressive work by Paul Leonard-Morgan. It's layered, tense, and adds so much atmosphere. Overall, it's a decent watch with just enough mood and momentum to make it worthwhile.
Frankly, I'm baffled by the one-star reviews on IMDb. The Assessment is a masterclass in dystopian storytelling, offering a chilling glimpse into a future where the state dictates the most intimate aspects of our lives. The film's exploration of a couple subjected to a week-long evaluation to determine their fitness for parenthood is both harrowing and thought-provoking. The performances are stellar, with Alicia Vikander delivering a haunting portrayal of the enigmatic assessor, Virginia. If you didn't grasp the depth and nuance of this narrative, perhaps it's time to stick to your formulaic superhero flicks. Not every film is meant to hand-hold the viewer through shallow plot points-this one dares to challenge, and it succeeds brilliantly. It's a cinematic experience that demands introspection and rewards those willing to engage with its complexities.
It's all been said in the reviews. How do you make a movie where the protagonist is so unlikable you root for the bad people to "win". Rudd and Theroux are great, Skarsgard meh. Writing isssshhh pass. The only good thing about it is cinematography and cgi, that's it. Booooooring.
