  • 6.75. Fun. While being a little Cheezy

Lots of good stuff for the kids here and as much as I don't want to admit it. Star wars is probably supposed to exist for that audience, so can't really complain. The story is good and keeps you surprised and never followed the obvious path that you think it's going too. I thought it looked great and it definitely had the Star Wars feel to it. Thought Jude Law was great and Nick Frost as SM33 was also a real treat. Where it falls down for me as an adult, was the kids. Although they in the main were more than capable actors. I found both Wim and Fern to be annoying characters. With the other 2 kids being far more palatable. Some of the scenes were a little too unbelievable to get on board with and I found it hard to accept how capable they were in dealing with what was full on Star Wars capers. But in saying that, I imagine a younger audience would be fully on board. Much like I was with "The Goonies" back when I was a kid. A capable effort which definitely sits in the realm of U or PG which is fine, but limits its overall appeal for me and stops it from making a 7.

  • Travelling Saviour Saves the Day

Alan Ritchsons Reacher is not overly complex, while being funny, endearing and also broken by his past experiences. This provides an interesting main protagonist who really gets you on board. The fact that he is absolutely hard as nails is also a character trait which keeps him interesting. I just finished watching the 3rd Season and it was an action treat. With some excellent scenes and an interesting plot. The supporting cast are also enjoyable. With the returning Neagley being her usual bad ass self. The new members of the season are also in the main enjoyable. Richard and his father along with all the additional house members provide a varied and exciting crew of sub stories. The villian was also scripted well and I enjoyed the journey reacher went on to try and dispatch him. Overall it reminded me of the same approach as classics like The Incredible Hulk or Highway to Heaven. Unusual saviour comes to town and saves the day. Then moves on to the next adventure. Found the fight scenes to be fun also. A 7.5 for me.

  • Universal Showing Disney HOW ITS DONE!

A fantastic ride from start to finish. Nico Parker was excellent as Astrid. The rest of the characters were excellently cast. Gerard Butler nailed Stoic, but Nick Frost as Gobber stole the show for me. I have no issue with Astrid not having blond hair and blue eyes. It's not really that important a detail as the entire culture is fictional anyway. Not Like anyone is complaining that the vikings had horns on their hats. It was really funny and I thought the live action versions really nailed the original characters. The story was also something that was enormously satisfying. Unlike many live action remakes, they didn't mess with the originally story too much. Only minor changes that did not impact the overall plot which was refreshing. I watched in 2D and I imagine 3D would have been even more spectacular. With the CGI and overall look of the movie being one of the best I've seen to date. Disney, Marvel, DC, StarWars, sit up and take note. This is how you make a family fantasy adventure. A real breath of fresh air and an immensely enjoyable 2 hours. A solid 9.
