I kept waiting for something to happen and nothing really did apart from a couple of scenes that were designed to shock you. However there was no build up and the event in particular happened out of the blue with no real fortelling nor a compelling reason why this would actually take place. It was completely out of character.
A reviewer compared this movie to There will be Blood. There is no comparison. With TWBB there was always this heavy simmering tension that could erupt at any moment and you never quite knew how the main protagonist would react.
Not so with The Brutalist. It was a maze of daily grind and bland verbal sparring between characters.
Long and drawn out I began to fidget by the end of the first act.
Adrien Brody is a class act as is Guy Pierce. I always enjoy watching good actors interpret scripts.
Scenes tended to jump around and motivations and reactions seemed random and at times nonsensical.
More slow plodding drama amid a rather depressing backdrop. Even the wealthy characters did not have an envious life.
