  • Great Animation but Disappointing story and some unlikeable characters

I'm of a younger generation that has never heard of He-man before except for that damn HEYAAAYAAYAA video.

As a newcomer to the series, I didn't really have any expectations for how any character should be portrayed. What I did know was that this was mainly advertised as a "He-Man" story, and I feel like it really failed in that regard.

The big bad of the show Skeletor and He-man himself felt more so like background lore rather than the main characters of the story, used to develop the plot. Which by itself, honestly wasn't the worst I've seen, If this was advertised as a spinoff story with Teela as the main protagonist, I think it would have been received a lot better. I can understand why long time fans felt like this was a bait and switch.

A few of the central characters were pretty unlikeable, especially Teela. I don't know if it's just me, but she just seems so angry, self-centered and annoying all the time. Perhaps it's to try and portray her as a strong willed character, but it just comes off as a bit too aggressive. Imagine Korra but dial that crap all the way up through the roof.

I get that sometimes you make a character look bad in the beginning to have a touching character development arc but this was a little overboard.

I'll probably stick around for part 2 just to see how they plan on handling the story from that point onwards, but I'm not expecting too much.

  • Newcomer to the Witcher Universe- Critics don't know what they're talking about

1st ever review, so this review may be really superficial. I'll admit that I'm no film guru, I can't tell you about atmosphere or lighting for crap, but I feel like I am a unbiased reviewer due to the fact that I have never read the novels or played the games. From the viewpoint of a STANDALONE show, this show is absolutely amazing! I don't now if it's the next GOT or anything, but it's the best Netflix original show I've ever seen thus far. Acting and effects are both superb (with a star-studded cast and a huge budget, this is expected). Most film critics actually don't know what they're talking about, as the critics that slam the series the hardest didn't even finish the show (looking at you, Entertainment Weekly). I do agree with some critics with the pacing of the show, newcomers will most definitely be confused with the timeline at first, as we don't have prior experience with the characters nor the story. The show doesn't really explain these things to us, add that to a ton of hallucinations and flashbacks from the characters, what the hell is going on? Still, that doesn't hold you back, the more you watch, the more you get it. I regret binging the show in one day, now I have to wait 2 years before season 2 comes out. Netflix released this show to kind of test the water, it was way too short. (we do get that famous bathtub scene with geralt tho, what else could you ask for)
