Since I already did reviews on this show's episodes which includes the finale "A Regular Epic Final Battle." Time to do a review on this "Jolly Good Show" in general. Regular Show is about a blue jay named Mordecai and a raccoon named Rigby going on surreal adventures, while working at a local park. In season 8 the finale season, they, other park workers and Eileen literally go to space. Regular Show is an awesome cartoon and one of the Best CN shows (Best CN show in the 2010s), filled with fun plots, awesomeness, humour, great characters, songs, action and heart. Time to tell you why in this review.
The Animation is good. Backgrounds of the park and city, as well the character designs look good, but are not anything special. When the show gets more surreal like when the background is in space or when awesome action scenes like the fights against baddies happen; that is when the animation gets epic. Plot and Writing for the episodes are mostly great! All the seasons are good, even if there are some bad episodes; which include some of the Mordecai, Margaret & CJ Love Triangle episodes, "Replaced," etc. The vast majority of episodes either range from good to amazing; some of my faves include the first and last episodes, "Exit 9B," "Happy Birthday Song Contest," "I See Turtles," "Eggscellent" and so much more. The surreal, action packed and character focused episodes are awesome. Tone and Music fit well for the series. Can have very funny humor that includes "Don't look at our crotches while we synchronize our watches! Boop Boop beep beep boop boop beep beep boo beep beep beep. Beep beep beep. Synchronized!" From the first episode, "The Power." As well the end of the episode, "The White Elephant Gift Exchange." The serious/emotional moments are also impressive, this includes the countless times that the characters care/help each other. Most of the songs are great ex: "What Are You Thankful For?", "Party Tonight", "Celebratin' Your Birthday", a lot of instrumental music, etc.
Most characters are fantastic. We got our 2 main characters who even if they got problems: Mordecai's awful love triangle, earlier seasons Rigby sometimes being an unlikable jerk. By the latter seasons, both of them went through immense character growth, became more mature, heroic and even respectable. As well Mordecai, the laid-back and responsible one, Rigby the mischievous and jerkier one, being my favourite characters on the show. Other awesome RS characters include: Skips, Pops, Benson, Hi Five Ghost, Muscleman, Eileen, Baby Ducks, Thomas/Nikolai, Death and a whole bunch more. Even if they are some bad characters like Mr. Maellard and Starla, they don't badly impact the series or those bad characters are one shots, as well these 2 characters have some good qualities, even if I dislike them.
In conclusion, Regular Show is an "Awesome Tween Cartoon" and "Jolly Good Show." Tween meaning aiming more for 10 and up where it's on Cartoon Network. The second line, being obviously from Pops. I wouldn't give it a 10 because there are a good number of bad episodes and characters can be unlikable. Overall RS has good animation that can get amazing, some bad, but mostly awesome episodes, funny humour, impressive serious/emotional moments, great songs, mostly fantastic characters. Overall, Regular Show is amazing, thank you JG Quintel and the crew. It gets a 9/10.
