Although a trivial matter in regards to the plot, the film opens and a date (1959) appears on the screen. Given that Castro entered Havana on New Year's Day, 1959 and Battista had already fled Cuba on December 31, 1958, the events that transpire in the movie could hardly have occurred in 1959.

A movie that proves you can fool most of the people most of the time. The movie is a plodding example of what Hollywood can con people into wasting ten or twelve dollars of their money. Although Williams performance as a stand alone feature can be lauded, the movie itself has all of the suspense of a McDonalds commercial and the pace of a turtle. Next to this movie, 'Traffic' looks like a masterpiece.

Yes, the movie shows the futility of the present War On Drugs. And no, it doesn't make a great movie; it doesn't even make a good movie. Douglas' performance is wooden and his character is totally redundant to the story. His role could have been replaced by a 'voice-over.' The director's use of choppy camera work to achieve reality only serves to provide choppy camera work. The color changes from sepia to bad color make it look like an experiment in filming in color. The script approaches being pathetic and the plot line is totally contrived. Overall, after being a movie buff for more years than I care to remember, this is at least in the worst five movies I've ever seen. I forget which movie mogul said, "If I want a message, I'll call Western Union." The director should have paid closer attention to his predecessors. (I should add, in leaving the theatre, most comments I heard from the audience were very negative and several people left prior to the ending.)
