There's nothing new in the story. Rather it is very common and already out there in many movies: a child loses a parent, who then seeks revenge later in the life.
Let us come to the fact that if it was just any action flick I would have still given it one more point. But because of all the hype from Wick universe, I saw it lagging in many aspects.
So what I did like:
Few action sequences.
And what i didn't or i expected much more:
The lady lead. Somehow it felt like the action scenes were choreographed in a way to help her. When I saw John Wick movies, especially the last one, i observed a struggle in the lead character when he fought, an exhaustion and aggression. The fight sequences were really good, there was a lot of thrill, and many were edge of the seat sequences. In this, i didn't see that exhaustion coming from the lady. Moreover, her actions lacked reality.
When the trailer was launched, I had some high expectations from the creators and Ana de Armas. She is a good actor. But on the contrary, I felt dissatisfied after watching it.

Sometime back I watched a Hindi film "Mard ko dard nahi hota" translated as "Man doesn't feel pain". Apparently, a boy had a serious problem in his body due to which he didn't feel any pain. And its consequences: he had to take care of many things including regular checks, always remain hydrated and many more. And there was a villain in the movie who had a lot many henchmen working for him. Overall, that was a very good movie with a different storytelling and superb acting.
And then recently I saw Novocaine. Same background of the story. When I started watching the movie, the feel and the vibe were above average and I was really hoping it to give much more than I had already seen or known. But to be very true, this film wasn't any refreshing. The stunts had comic line in between that wasn't really funny. Over the top gore was already out there in many movies and the climax, to be frank, was predictable. If you put a little concentration.
Overall, a very average movie, with average acting and very average work.

The movie is available on Netflix.
Started with the movie without much expectations. And frankly, the start was decent. Then as the movie progressed, I didn't like leaving it in between.
The story wasn't unique and there's nothing that you haven't watched before. However, what i liked was the action which felt realistic and raw, stick to the story fundamental, a little spy work, and no unnecessary emotions that turn out more cringe than its intentions. Acting was decent by everyone.
Lot better than same type of movies coming these days on OTT platforms. Whose creators seem unclear whether they had even thought through what they were going to make.
Eight stars out of ten.
