First I need to say that I'm quite hearing-impaired and use a listening device at the movies. This day I was given a device that only does.description audio and not merely captions. The voice-over then is a complete description of the action taking place in minute detail including description of person(s) shown, sometimes calling them by their name or, if unknown, then a "descriptive" name like "slender man" or "moustache man". In some instances this over-description was helpful to me as the movie is light on dialogue (I wonder if I actually knew more about the relationships of other characters, e.g., like siblings that I might not otherwise known); other times it was far too much description (not sight-impaired) as to be over-bearing. For a 3 hour movie, I found the disconnected stories about random people we don't know or have any relationship with so why would we particularly care about their mundane journeys? As soon as you finally feel like you know and care about a character the movie abruptly switches to yet another character we neither know nor care about. It all seemed too random to me and without purpose. I do have to admit it didn't seem like 3 hours so it had something going for it, but not entirely sure what that was.
I gave this film a 10 because i cannot think of anything that would have made it better. I wasn't even thinking this would be more than good due to being from a new studio. As a movie it was great, moved along easily and quickly, very smoothly. As a documentary it was superb. Covered the issue from all sides from a variety of sources. All sources were freely given permission to speak without interruption and some asked questions also. Doctors, therapists, pediatricians, experts of all kinds were given voice, respectfully. Every parent should see this and every young person who might be having issues in this realm should also see it. You can only come out more informed.
