This review is about series two.
I do seriously wonder how some of this TV dramas get commissioned, the story bar is so low
The acting is OK, but the whole point of any drama is to get you involved, and to root for one or more of the main characters. Well, in the first episode, a tragedy happens that is * completely * avoidable were it not for the fact that two of the main characters were utterly negligent and nipped off for some adult fun.
Just couldn't get past that- how can I root for them? Then add to that the police being useless (until the story requires them not to be) with a house search that actually made me laugh out loud.
After that, the story flip-flops with 'twists', and I found myself thanking the powers that be for only four episodes.

I'm always dubious about these TV dramas (especially the ITV or C5 ones) as they tend to start strong, paint themselves into a corner with mysteries and twists, then have a disappointing ending.
Well....let's just say Sherwood fell into that category.
The acting was great, don't get me wrong. Love David Morrissey, he's superb, thought Robert Glenister was great, as was Adeel Akhtar who was stand-out.
Trouble is, they layer all these twists and turns, then completely fail to provide any adequate explanation as to certain people's motives for doing what they do. Several unexplained threads, many loose ends and a feeling of "oh....is that it?" at the end.
Better than average, and certainly an interesting look at a turbulent part of UK history, but still disappointing.
