What I expected to be a tear-jerking, maudlin exercise in feel-good polemics instead turned out to be a raunchy and witty comic film of brazen nerve and determined political incorrectness. Told from the viewpoint of a chef hired to cook the last meal for a group of women friends "of a certain age", the chef turns out to be their peculiar entree.
Wonderfully directed, extremely well-acted, it is the screenplay that is the star of the show, offering Noel Coward wit amid Edward Albee claustrophobia. Who'd have thought that suicide could be so fun?
The music is superb as well!
