Tariq Nasheed has done it again getting too the truth, the pioneers of Hip-Hop are front & center spitting truth & smashing myths & "LIARS", for the connoisseurs of history & truth "MICROPHONE CHECK" will not disappoint. Microphone Check doesn't beat you over the head with facts, it entertains with facts, the challenge is to research for yourself & satiate your palate for the Truth. The naysayers tried too derail this & failed horribly knowing the truth would get fleshed out. I will say this moving forward anyone who wants too challenge me about Hip-Hop history I'll direct them to this documentary.
The simplicity of this film has stayed with me since I first saw it on cable back in the 80's, that being said the best way for me too describe this film is "Southern Comfort meets Deliverance", Ronny Cox bridges the two films together. The survival instincts of the two protagonists seemed natural too me no fancy special training just common sense & the will too stay alive, now the antagonist of this film I gotta say played there parts as well you got overzealous militia men who play follow the leader like kids. I enjoyed this film then & I enjoy it now I can't find a DVD release of this film that with in self is criminal .
First off the source material alone is worth reading, that being said this film is a cult classic of the 1st Grade, the pacing kept my attention, the culture clashing was well written and fleshed out, the 13 Warriors came up against a adversary they've never encounter, ingenuity, skills & strength push this adventure for me, if you're looking for OSCAR or BAFTA performances from this film it's not for you, pure adventure from a bygone ERA. Antonio Banderas played his character well as did his costars, I would like to see this fleshed out on a streaming services as a miniseries too truly capture "Eater's Of The Dead" main character journey, just my opinion.
