  • Missed Potential and Lackluster Execution

"Love Scenery" had the potential to be a captivating drama similar to "You Are My Glory," but it fell short due to its lower production quality and lackluster execution. The premise of a celebrity and a regular person having a healthy, supportive, and charming relationship seemed simple, yet the show struggled to get it right. The portrayal of the celebrity aspect missed many impactful dramatic moments, leaving out crucial scenes like the big reveal to friends and family, or the "oh wow! They are a couple" moments. Even the male lead character was a famous streamer, but alas this was only briefly touched upon in a few random scenes.

The gaming element was another area where the show faltered. The type of game they play was never clearly described-was it a COD shooter with co-op elements? The integration between the game and real life was not smooth. In comparison to YAMG where the game aspect was well-executed and smoothly integrated to the story, "Love Scenery" failed to deliver an interesting gaming plot. Additionally, the subplot involving the secondary leads was uninteresting and difficult to connect with.

Overall, IMHO the writers failed to create the much-needed memorable moments that are essential for delivering a compelling romance. I had really high hopes for this show, but after finishing it, I feel it just wasn't up to par.

  • Not Emotionally Impactful if You're Not Rooting for the Main Characters

"Fake it Until You Make It" has some decent ideas, especially regarding the business stress and pressures of modern office work. Unfortunately, it falls short where it matters most: the romance. The chemistry between the main leads often feels forced and lacks genuine connection. The story frequently goes off track, and the execution and direction seem unconventional and disjointed.

The editing also contributes to the disjointed feel, with abrupt transitions between scenes that disrupt the narrative flow. The cinematography is unremarkable, and the theme songs and music selections sometimes feel out of place and detract from the overall experience.

All these factors made it difficult for me to root for the main couple, leaving me uninterested in their story. My recommendation is to watch the first few episodes. If you don't find yourself invested in the main couple by then, it's unlikely you will enjoy the rest of the series.

  • A Refreshing Romcom without Conventional Clichés

In the world of Korean romcoms, the Cinderella complex often dominates, where female leads relying on male counterparts for the assistance and support. However, this show defies the norm by presenting a female lead who is refreshingly independent yet adorable and romantic. The chemistry between the main characters is great, and in its own simple way adds some intrigue to the storyline.

The secondary couple was also interesting, particularly with Kim Ji-hoon's charming presence in a romcom after his remarkable villain role in a serious show like "Flower of Evil". The choice of a rockish OST over the typical pop tunes seen in kdramas is also a pleasant deviation, made the whole watch even more fun.

Finally, I think it was a great idea to go with a more concise 10-episode format, instead of the usual 16 episodes of kdramas that often result in unnecessary plot dragging and convoluted yet dumb twists in the final act of the story.

Overall, this kdrama romcom stands out as a breath of fresh air and ranks among the best in the genre.
