I just watched this film for the first time in anticipation of the Sonic 3 movie (as of the time of writing it is not out yet), and it was about as good as I expected when I first heard about the reviews in 2020, which is to say, good by video game movie standards.
The most interesting part about the film for me was Tom as a character. Usually Sonic fans look at humans like oil to water, but I found him to be very likable. Not sure if that's the general consensus or not, just my thoughts.
The writing was also pretty tight, too. Lines mostly felt like what they would be in an actual conversation.
If I had to give two flaws, it's that the visuals were a bit subpar at times for a 2020 movie (one or two scenes were obviously greesn-creen and Sonic sometimes clashes with his environment in an uncanny way). The other is one joke about a tank having a baby that just made my eyes roll.
Overall, I look forward to seeing Sonic 2.

Catching Up is terminally unfunny. I know, I know, humor is subjective and all that, but I simply could not laugh. I would say that the comedy is in the vein of modern Simpsons, or that of modern SNL.
Though this is a pilot that is inherently supposed to be a proof-of-concept, I do not see myself watching future episodes of this show, unless at the strongest suggestion of a friend who swears it has improved in later episodes, or if I lose a bet.
The voicework and animation are serviceable, but those alone are not enough to save it and keep me wanting more. If you are looking for an adult animated sitcom, my advice would be for you to look elsewhere, hard as it may be to find a quality one.
