I love James Gunn's movies, but this Superman was just so mediocre. The best three things were: Krypton, 4, and Hoult's Luther.
I thought the casting was horrible. Martha and Jonathan Kent were so wrong. Why did Martha Kent have a deep southern accent? She's from Kansas. I like Pruitt and he was good, but not right for Kent. The fact is, IF the message from his Krytonian parents really was rule Earth (which honestly I wasn't sure of by the end of the movie) then the Kent's love should have been enough to make Superman the boy scout he is. But the script lacked enough of that live to work The Justice Gang? Really? I love Fillion, but he was too old and not right for Green Lantern. Mr. Terrific was a good character, but we got nothing really about him. Peachmaker's appearance was wasted, Hawkgirl was just playing and angry child. Element Man was also great.
Lois Lane character was just not up to par with a strong, Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist. She was so unimpressive that she was forgettable. Jimmy Olsen was a good one, and Lex's girl friend did her job well I don't blame the actors, but the script was so short on info and background. No, we really don't need to see Clark growing up again, but the heart and soul of Superman is his relationships with his friends and family. Luther's one note performance is not Hoult's fault and who were all those video playing needs doing his bidding? It was a mess.
Super Dog was great. Best part of the movie. I give the animators on him 5 stars.

The movie is so poorly done that even though bit is a Cinderella story, the writing and directing leave so much to be desired. The comedy barely worked, the acting should have been better, the actors were doing their jobs, but it didn't work at all. A miss for both Rob Lowe and Jennifer Grey.
Lowe's character asking to sleep with Jennifer's character is kind of sickingly in bad taste and of a different time, more the sixties rather than 1990.
The French cast is inspired as a concept for Haute Couture, but they felt like they were B or C actors that just may not have worked with the director. It was too hard to tell there was so much wrong, it wasn't good overall.
Disappointing, and sad.
