As someone who started playing horror games after the genre started to get saturated with action-horror (Resident Evil 4 and onward) I wouldn't say I have a lot of experience in the old school horror genre. Most people are in the same position, which is why I will say if you're looking to play a horror game, start here!
I played bits and pieces of the original as a kid and it terrified me. As a 26 year old, this game did it all over again. Graphics exceed expectations, audio (preferably with a headset) makes the game a masterpiece. Game development tops it all off, making this one of my favorite games of all time.
Where this game shines is in its ability to never let you feel comfortable. All horror games try to do this, be RE2 does it different. The horror progresses as you progress. You unlock a new weapon? Now there's a new enemy to use it on. Get familiar with the map? Let's add a curveball to make you creep around every corner. What makes this game special is this unique experience along with beautiful graphics, great sound design, and a great story.

Starting out, this game felt like a great fresh take on a rhythm game. With bands like "Nine Inch Nails" and "The Black Keys" filling up the first 30 minutes I thought this game had great potential.
Unfortunately as time went on it was quite the let down.
Mechanics are fun, and the concept of hacking away to the rhythm was entertaining. This idea got very stale after a few hours of gameplay though.
Unfortunately those hit songs at the beginning that get you hooked in don't fill the roster of the entire rest of the game. To me this was a huge let down. You hook me in with some of my favorite songs, then never give me a taste afterwards? It's a very bait-and-switch move to get people to finish your game without them being excited to do so.
Outside of the rhythm of the game, the story was overall very cliche and I didn't find myself being attached or interested in any characters.
This game is highly regarded as "slept on" or "underrated" as an exclusive. Which is why I played it. However I beg to differ and think if you're looking for a rhythm game that you want to actually enjoy the music to in the process, I would look elsewhere.

I was hesitant to watch this because of how bad of a reputation the series has due to the horrible animation. Truthfully it is still worth the watch. The animation has its moments where it shines, but it had tough shoes to fill considering 97' and the manga is highly regarded as the best of the best.
All other aspects of this series is great. They pulled all the right material. Pacing was steady in terms of lore and action. The score was exciting and season 2's opener is a contender to one of my favorite anime openers of all time. Again, the only true flaw is the animation.
My only other recommendation would be to make sure you watch 97' prior to this series.
