First and foremost, I really enjoyed the plot. The fantastic bit is just enough and it turns out pretty well with one of the plot twists. Even though you get an idea pretty quickly of what is going on if you are used to watching psychological thriller, you may still be surprised as I was since what I had envisioned was not exactly what ended up happening. The only real lack I found was in the acting but, to be fair, the four child actors are young so it s excusable. In my experience, it was not bad enough that the watcher is cast out of the movie. To sum it up, if you like psychological thrillers and are not against some fantasy, it's a very enjoyable watch!
Knowing it was a thriller I kept watching until the end, hoping for some explanation to the madness on my screen but nothing happened. Actually, it was really like everything that happened to the characters on the screen unhappened. Some elements are thrown at us like the island legend and some of the autochthones presence at keypoints but nothing tangible and so the audience is completely lost. I did like the beginning though, the fact that we did not know who to trust -the answer to that question ended up being no one. The actors did their job really well, the only fault I find is in the writing really. The whole plot seems unfinished.
Overall I liked this movie. The plot is very interesting but sometimes a bit over the top. I don't know if the intention really was to depict the complexity of life in our era. I happened to be lost between the love story(ies?), the family drama, and of course the murder case. I am definitely not sure that everything was necessary to carry the story: I'm thinking of the friend character, the boulimic-ish scene, etc. The main thing I regret is the casting of the main character. She was very bland and the unnatural at times dialogue probably did not help. The rare times where she showed stronger emotions seemed exaggerated and completely took me out of the movie.
