  • Definitely not Shakespeare, but this film does possess its moments.

Just remember you are not watching Shakespearean actors bringing to life a great piece of literature and you won't be too disappointed! Although this movie does drag a bit and is way over the top, The Scorpion King still is a fun movie for filmgoers who don't want to think too much. However, I was amazed that some real places and names were used. For instance, the villain Memnon is actually the name of an ancient Egyptian statue and a character in The Iliad. The setting of Gomorrah is one of the most wicked cities mentioned in the Bible. Finally, many of the other names, settings, and even some of the costumes and actions of the characters are historically accurate, so somebody did their homework. In some ways, the movie reminded me a little bit of The Epic of Gilgamesh, an ancient piece of literature where the hero and villains are way over the top. However, the film's directors and producers do need to know that they did not have bikini wax in ancient times!

  • A thrill ride with few surprises but technically amazing!

Mystery and suspense lovers probably will be able to predict many of the occurences in Minority Report as I did, but still thoroughly enjoy the movie. It is a thrill ride from start to finish with amazing special effects. What truly is surprising is that many of the futuristic predictions are actually feasible. The storyline is also very sympathetic to the main character. Therefore, the audience can relate to the hero, John Anderton, and not just be bowled over by all of the effects. Tom Cruise delivers a good performance as a flawed hero. Although the film is a little dark - think Blade Runner - it has many sweet moments and even some humor. The theaters have been packed for this movie down in Chattanooga.

  • Television biography sometimes hits and sometimes misses.

Although Liz: The Elizabeth Taylor Story does not offer any real new information on the celebrity, star biography fans will find a few tidbits to savor. The soap opera of Elizabeth Taylor's life is played out like your typical made-for-television movie. However, some of the casting was physically inspiring. Yes, part of the striking resemblances to the real people were due to makeup, but the makeup artists definitely had a good foundation. Sherilyn Fenn possesses the same striking beauty as Taylor and in some scenes the similarities between the two actresses are startling. In addition, the actor who portrays Montgomery Clift also makes fans of Clift's movies do a double-take. Don't expect too much, but for a hot summer afternoon with little else to do the movie is a good waste of time.
