After I saw the score on IMDb and heard the reactions from my colleagues my expectations were very high. Unfortunately my wife and I almost fell asleep. Graphics are superb (1 point extra for that) but the romance between the robots did not touch us. And that what the movie is all about. With romance I prefer to see real characters and not an animation. There were also lots parts in the movie without any meaning, nice for people who like special graphics but senseless for the movie. You love this movie or it's nothing, I don't think there really is something in between. And be aware that there's almost no discussion in the movie.
I had high expectations before I went to the cinema. Unfortunately in the end I was disappointed. I will tell you why. A movie like King Kong should be realistic. Huge animals move slowly and have power. And what do I see? Dinosaurs of 50 feet or higher run like small dogs through the woods, King Kong himself runs and jumps like a small cat through the woods and New York. It is simply not possible. And the fights? Compare the fight with boxing, lightweights need lots of punching while heavyweights have enough of one big punch. One punch of such an heavy arm will break the dinosaurs mouth immediately. A rock on his head of a few thousands kilo doesn't seem to be so impressive. A ship that hits the rocks so hard and so many times and still keeps on floating. Great ship, where do they sell them? Maybe they needed the design for the Titanic. Hit icebergs, we don't sink. So visualizations were great but reality far away, unfortunately. Secondly, I can remember from my childhood when I saw King Kong, version 2 from 1976, that I was scared to see King Kong. This King Kong was nothing to be afraid of, he seemed to be crazy. Sometimes it reminded me of a slapstick. So this movie didn't touch me emotionally....
I didn't know what to expect from this movie, but because it was Dutch I wanted to see what had been made in 'my' country. Unfortunately it was nothing. The movie is about nothing, a love affair between a Dutch girl and a Marrocan guy. That's not really a problem because sometimes funny movies are about nothing. But it's also not funny. People were doing some disgusting things in the kitchen (I don't hope it happens in reality) and the role of the chief in the kitchen was totally unclear to me. It was not original although I was not bored at all, maybe because it was so short (that was an highlight). Don't waste your time watching it.
