  • Recycled one-liners from 'Mock the week'

I'm guessing anybody that would buy this DVD grew to like Frankie Boyle through 'Mock the week', I know I did. His brutal and quick wit made him the high point of what was already a great show, so when I saw his first live stand up DVD was being realised, I excitedly went out and bought it, expecting the hilarity of the panel show but possibly even funnier. I was wrong.

Instead of a flowing reel of funny banter what you get is a serious of unconnected one-liners that had already been used (much to the amusement of everyone watching the show) on 'Mock the week'. He picked out members of the audience to insult (I later saw him do the same on the live at the Apollo show, even using the exact same phrases), unfunnily.

I think I genuinely laughed twice. Very disappointing.

Save your money and go for Michael Mcintyre or Lee Evans.

  • Tacky TV at its best

It didn't surprise me to see the average user vote for this show on IMDb to be 2.1 because, let's be honest, it's not great.

For one thing, it's reality TV; a genre that is always easy to scrutinise, especially when not done extremely well. It's 12 very British 20-somethings, all younger than Paris, competing to be Paris's 'British best friend' or 'BBF'. They all fight and bitch like there's no tomorrow, then suck up and act like the sweetest, most innocent person to walk this earth during their meeting with the big P. One contestant, or sometimes in a shock twist TWO, are booted out each week until we are left with one winner. Hooray! So yeah, not the most original set up, but what did you really expect? Honestly, this is a load of rubbish. But in a good way! It's target audience is not adults, more so late teens and twenties. And for that audience, it worked! I'm not the most girly girl in the world, nor am I even much of a PH fan, but I liked this show. No doubt, like what happened with the original U.S version of the show, Paris'll feel the need to get another BBF and we'll see series 2 sometime next year :) 7/10.

  • Very spooky

This film really surprised me as the only reason I went to see it was because I'd missed the film I had intended to see in the first place.

Stephen King is renowned for some great films such as the Green Mile. However, some of his films have been very disappointing such as The Secret Window and Dreamcatcher. So when I bought my tickets to go see 1408, I didn't really know what to expect, especially since no-one I knew had been to see it and I had no reviews.

The basic plot is the story of an ageing paranormal investigator turned Author who is famed for writing books about ghost finding hotels and spots in the US. After receiving an anonymous postcard from the Dolphin Hotel, he decides to spend a night in room 1408 with terrifying results.

This film really scared me! It has a good blend of pscycological and physical scares which is quite hard to achieve.

John Cusack plays the role of a strong and narrow-minded fighter losing a battle of sanity with great integrity.

    John Cusack at his best.

A good horror film. Recommended for those who plan a night in with a good horror.
