There is a good movie in this somewhere, it just isn't what was presented here. It is blunt and clunky and ultimately contrived. The music is AWFUL. I would call this soundtrack "Music for the Most Maudlin Film of All Time". The movie is very manipulative in trying to force the audience to see sentiment, alongside yet another flat performance from Tom Hanks, through music and leaning into acceptance of current social relevance (transgender issues etc). The movie's strength is the supporting cast. There are some very good performances here especially from Mariana Trevino. I don't think Tom Hanks is a good enough actor to pull of the nuances for a role like this. It's like watching the home life of the cop from Catch me if You Can; interesting but uninspired.
Why did they make this film? A boring hair metal band gets a movie 20 years after they were relevant. This is awful. It is trite, uninspired and just dumb. The acting is bad. The story is bad. The writing is bad. This is for fans only. Boring and dumb. These, mostly untrue, memoirs of a terrible glam metal band are hard to sit through. Who likes this? Who asked for this? Who made this uninspired, boring TV movie? I hated Motley Crue in the 80s and this cinematic vomit makes me absolutely detest them. I would literally rather watch paint dry. Awful to the limit of awfulness.. Avoid. Possibly the worst rock movie ever made.
