der hirsch!!! this movie aired in tv in midsummer 89, i think, just the time when nobody really watches tv and so was the promotion: nothing at all. i was lucky to see it and funny enough: the next day everybody was talking about it!! soon it was seen in selected cinemas with a complementary beer, of course, since the bavarian spirit was a core part of it. unfortunately the yearly showings stopped due to the damage of the last (or only) 3 copies. it`s a shame that it is not shown anymore and copies are not available. xaver remains unequalled in simplicity, straightforwardness and fun, not to mention the real bavarian display ;) it`s a favorite of all times... i`ll never forget the space-isetta: des is ka kreidler net, ond a ka bmw !!!!

well this movie struck me when i watched it first.

all you need is an open mind and no preoccupancy to sudden changes and their impact into individual life. a little freedom, sometimes just arriving and you are there: in doris doerries fiction, and right into the human nature with all the fascination set into the right light and location with a hint of miracle... dd has her own way of making movies and i hope she will go on...

i think this is one of the best movies i have ever seen and one of my all time favorites....watch it !!

i can only agree : nothing beats this alien-bavarian connection, specially if beer (and deer) is available in bavarian measures. after the first (and only?) broadcast of this movie everybody was talking xaver-slang, mostly bavarian and since then germany knows how to react to an alien emergency and that the alien like to construct their material like bavarians would do and they like to socialize with great force and the support of some old bavarian power drink...

this is an outstanding example of sience fiction comedy and the best achievable implementation of south german folks into sci-fi
