I have seen all three films made of this story. But the film that is the most emotional is An Affair to Remember largely due to the wonderful performances of Deborah Kerr and Cary Grant. I saw this film first in the movie theaters when it was first released. The whole audience was sobbing. I remember on the big screen Cary Grant was just impossibly handsome. If I remember correctly it was a huge hit, I have watched the film as well as portions of the film many times through the years. This film is so well done without being sappy. One delightful remembrance of the film is in Sleepless in Seattle where it is part of the story written by Nora Ephron. It also is part of the story of Meg Ryan and Rosie O'Donnell. In fact they use the Empire State Building at the end to introduce Meg Ryan to Tom Hanks and his son.
I watched all 6 episodes yesterday. Based on all of the reviews, I expected it to be boring and snarkier than it was. It was interesting and definitely not nasty. They clearly have a strong marriage. Also what came across loud and clear is that they love living in Montecito. Neither of them enjoyed being Sr Working Royals.- certainly not for a lifetime. But it was Harry who made the decision to leave his Sr Working Royal job. Since Harry is not the heir, he wanted an outside life and profession like many of his cousins. The second half is stronger than the first half. I think they both did a good job presenting their positions.
I have watched this show since it first premiered. What is there not to like? I enjoy seeing all of the luxury real estate on the West Coast in exclusive areas. I enjoy the professional aggressive tactics by the featured realtors. I I had to hire one of them, I would choose Josh Flagg. He seems to have a better feel for matching his clients with the right properties. He was born wealthy so he has nothing to prove - nor does he try to impress. I look forward to each season. I gather for the new season the British Team will not be part of the show and also no Edmund. I was sorry to hear that Million Dollar Listing will no longer be filmed. I gather than both Edmund, Ryan and the new Gold realtor decided to not participate. Since I live in Chicago, I enjoyed seeing residential real estate in New York City.
