If it wasn't for John Schneider I would've turned it off. The black husband was the most irritating part of this movie. Yes, having the black male (or even female) always be hyper aggressive can be and is annoying, but this guy was too passive Almost medicatedly so. 0 back bone towards his wife, the other aggressive father, and even his own kid(s)! As the other reviewer stated: who doesn't stand up for their own family? It's the only thing I could think about the entire film, as he is the main character so he was predominately on the screen. 2 stars for decent cinematography. The rest was honestly bland and uninteresting as the movie went on.
Written and starring the same person? Recipe for failure. It's very rare someone in this field can do more than one function. Here we have the writer also playing the main character. Well he can't act. At least not in this film. And the story was all over the place and garbage, so clearly he can't write either. And that seems to be a common theme when people try to do too much in show business.
But the movie, well it isn't good. A black man and his son going to the Appalachian for camping? Pause. We not doing that. First off, camping is not one of our go to activities. Second, we know better than to go out to racism, the place. The cringy bonding in the beginning should've told me turn this movie off. But then we meet the racist locals. Sigh. This has been done to death. It's played out. Then there's this hangman. It was more like an after thought. If they had focused more on that and the cult, and cut out the racism stuff, which added nothing, then maybe this could've been a 3 star instead of 1.

When the writer is also the director and editor and producer and in the film, it's going to fail. And this was a great example of another failure of a movie. None of it made sense. Decisions were insulting to a child. The characters weren't unlikeable, they just were empty. The ending was phoned in. Mr Tran needs to find one thing he's good at and stick with it. Acting definitely isn't it, and neither is writing. Perhaps his editing is where his talent should go. The rest of the cast should stick to their service industry jobs or pursue another career. Freaking out after 1 day of the storm was completely ridiculous.
