I remember when I first finished reading Scott Pilgrim, flipping over to that final set of pages. I sat there not inspecting the complex writing of emotions or studying the art and it's simple but meaningful purpose. No, I was tearing up like crazy and just wondering how something this beautiful could be printed onto a set of pages. I didn't get that same feeling from this ending but at the same time, it felt different in a very good way. This final episode took every little detail, every throw away line and packed it into a damn near perfect conclusion. The final battle is meant to show us just how far a simple misunderstanding can go (in the most Scott Pilgrim way of course.) From the battle on, we get a perfect scene between the characters we've rooted for this entire time and can I just say how much this little scene does. It not only concludes the time machine plot, but it also moves both of our love birds forward into there new life. They don't know what will happen from this point on, we don't know either. However, that's the beauty of interpretation and thus, the beauty of this ending.
I'm truly in awe of how amazing this anime adaptation is so far! I have been a huge fan of the manga since that first fan translation back in 2019 and ever since then I've kept up with every chapter. Of course then I saw the announcement of the adaptation and I got even more excited. "One of the very few genuinely good zombie manga is getting an anime AND a live action adaptation?" I thought to myself. I couldn't believe it and still cannot believe it, yet here we are with the first episode. It was truly everything I wanted in the opening episode and way WAY more. I love how much time they spend showing just how awful his work environment is, which works perfectly into the second half of the episode. Honestly the only complaint I have is just I want more episodes and soon enough that complaint will no longer exist. I'll update this review when the full anime comes out without any spoilers of course. But yeah, check this anime out and when you're done consider reading the manga. You will not regret it.
