  • A standout amongst its peers

I have a guilty pleasure of 80s slasher films. For me the standouts (apart from the obvious "Friday the 13th" franchise and "A Nightmare on Elm Street" films) Are Prom Night and My Bloody Valentine. But once you go further into the abyss of the films in this era and craze, you discover others like "The Prowler" "Sleepaway Camp" And "Graduation day" After a while things start feeling repetitive. But stumbling into Curtains - I was rather impressed that it manages to feel different (even separate) to others in its category and timezone. The setting at the house, the fact it's a group of competetive actresses, all add to a unique experience. The killers appearance is also the stuff of childhood nightmares! The standout is Lynne Griffin's performance as cheeky comedic actor Patti, a nice change from playing the shy nice-girl Claire in Black Christmas a decade earlier.

  • Not what I was expecting But a pleasant surprise!

I saw this at a local screening showcase event for independent films. I wasn't going in with high expectations if I'm being totally honest. Based on the poster, trailer and the fact its low budget, I was assuming this would be a run-of-the-mill cheesy, slasher flick. But I was pleasantly surprised! Moorehouse Road (which if you haven't guessed, is the street where the bulk of the story takes place on) ended up being quite suspenseful and original. Starts off slow but the pace picks up around the middle and becomes more intriguing with every moment, leading to a pretty cool twist. Great performances by the cast too!
