Exceptional doesn't even begin to describe the job that the actors have done on this, especially the ones portraying the parents. Their outstanding performance makes all the emotions and the complexity of such a heavy subject accessible, almost to a point where I had to stop and take a breath, especially on episodes three and four.
Yes, it's slow paced, but that seems only fitting for this kind of story. And it is told in such a delicate and sensitive way. On top of that, the camera work and editing is remarkable.
For me this was without a doubt one of the best pieces of television I have watched all year.

It took me about two episodes to really, really get into this, but then I was 100% hooked. Jennifer Aniston, Reese Witherspoon, and the other are doing a great job, the script is intelligent and surprising, the dialogues sharp. It does well at making different layers of mysoginy visible while not oversimplifying the discussion of that topic or making it flat.
In my opinion this is Anistons best performance as an actress yet (and I am a big fan of Friends, so that is saying something).
I am not generally interested in the media world, but this reeled me in. If you like The Good Wife, you will love this, too.

When I started watching this series I was immediately taken by this wonderful, charming main little character and his weird, lovely brother. The story is so sad and so beautiful at the same time. And it reminded me of the fact that life can be effing tough and cruel, yes at the same time wonderful and full of love and care. It's an unusual coming of age story, without black-and-white clichés of good and bad. Life is much more complex than that and even people who do bad things sometimes aren't bad themselves. This is wonderfully told in this story, that made me feel for these boys from the bottom of my heart. Simply loved it and will watch it again.
