I could genuinely talk about this episode for hours. It's one of the most special things to ever exist in my life. It's not even a masterpiece. Except it is. But... let me explain.
The found footage format is executed perfectly. The realistic nature of the episode makes it so terrifying that it still scares me in my sleep to this day. The jumpscare scene... oh my god, genuinely in my top 3 scariest scenes in Dr. Who, maybe even the scariest. The background music my murray gold is impeccable. It's not even music, it's just noise, but it's so realistic and fits the vibe of the episode too well, I swear.
Oh, and the twist - I won't give it away, but it's great, if you understand it. That's the only problem I have with the story at first - I didn't really understand it at first, it confused me. Idk if it was because I was 13 when I first watched this, as most people seem to find it rather confusing/unengaging and they're often adults.
But every time I rewatched it and listened to the commentary, it scared me more. I was fascinated by the episode. I was fascinated by the unproduced sequel and constantly wrote fanfics about what happened to the Sandmen next (I'm actually writing one rn). I don't care what most people say. I don't care this was the lowest rated episode on here for about 3 years. It may not be critically as good as Heaven Sent in my opinion, but it has a very special place in my heart.
I'll make an hour long analysis on it someday, I promise.

By that, I mean he is MY FAVOURITE YOUTUBER OF ALL TIME DAMN HOW DO YOU MAKE A YOUTUBER THIS GOOD. I just stumbled upon this guy in my recommendations and he's been gracing my ears with hilarious jokes, heartfelt criticism and even genuine wisdom for two years now! I will never get tired of listening to his ranking videos on long drives and when I go to sleep. His videos on Whisper of the Heart and Stephen Hillunburg (R. I. P.) are two of the most inspirational things I will ever see in my life. His obsession with Tamatoa mirrors my obsession with the Sandmen from Dr Who. I bloody love this guy.
Incidentally, R. I. P to Chris and Patrick, his best friend and brother who often starred on his channel. It's been two years since they tragically passed in a car accident and I couldn't miss them more.
