Highly anticipated for sure as I am a Jane Austen fan from the age of 14. Persuasion is one of her more dramatic yet subtle novels. Why would anyone want to turn it into a comedy? Dakota Johnson is far too pretty to portray Ann Elliot who was never in-your-face witty and/or cheeky.... It wasn't a boring movie yet I was always waiting for the emotional highs and lows that never landed.... If you want to see Persuasion come to life as it was intended, do yourself a favour and watch the 1995 version with Amanda Root and Ciaran Hinds. Absolutely superb.
I'm not a fan of the various caped crusaders, men in tights and all that...they all kinda seem juvenile to me.... The Batman really won me over. Loved Pattinson's portrayal of the complex and traumatized Batman/Bruce Wayne....plus he was not hard on the eyes...at all ! Same goes for Zoe Kravitz. Amazing as Cat Woman and a pleasure to behold.... Colin Pharrell?... Ok never would have guessed it was him in a million years. Make-up deserves an Oscar...All in all, great entertainment.
I've been reading the series since 1993...obviously I had great expectations...I've just finished watching the 1st episode. I have to say, I am a bit disappointed with it.... The acting was very good mostly, it is apparent that the actors are talented...I think the directing is lacking, can't exactly put my finger on it....it lacks gravitas....and I'm also not a huge fan of the music....trying too hard but ultimately lacking depth...I sincerely hope it gets better in the next episodes.... UPDATE.....just finished watching ep. 6. Unfortunately, the whole aesthetic is on Xena level.... I blame the showrunner Rafe Judkins for this....the man obviously lacks taste. The directing is ridiculous, I mean they have talented actors but they aren't too bothered about bringing out their best. Some scenes are just cringe-worthy, correction, a lot of scenes.... The musical score of the intro is absolutely terrible, the worst possible choice.... GoT had the same budget, maybe even less for the 1st season than WoT.... Oh and no wonder Barney Harris quit, he realised it was sub parr and I'm sure they made him sign some kind of NDA otherwise we would have heard something or other.... No gravitas and no taste.... What a bloody waste.
