Perhaps it was my mistake for thinking this was a sci-fi or dystopian mystery, or perhaps a yakuza thriller. Alas, it was none of these and is just a deeply unfocused drama that dips in and out of other genres haphazardly along the way.
What was missing? The writing really needed to be a lot more focused, snappy and charming and frankly, just better. It was far too easy to stop caring about characters through the series and the final episode is no different. The fact you could skip ten minutes at any point and miss essentially nothing of the plot is perhaps most concerning.
That said if you loved the first few episodes you'll likely be happy, as the finale is just more of the same mediocre drama.

Revolver spends much of the first half unraveling a complex web of deceit and revenge; but having started so promisingly as a mystery/thriller, rapidly changes gear into mystery/drama and ends in rather an understated note.
Arguably this is more realistic to how real life plays out in such criminal feuds, but does not make for the most satisfying movie experience. All the various plot strands and overlapping relationships introduced in the first hour ultimately count for very little as the storyline becomes increasingly simple for the rest of the run time.
If you're a fan of Korean thriller/dramas, this is a good watch, just maybe don't expect a classic - which is a shame because with a better second half that's exactly what this might have been.

Yet another episode where very little actually happens. The good news is that we have a new location which would surely get the story moving up a gear? Alas the writing is just so flat and slow that it's becoming harder and harder to care that much anymore.
Possibly the biggest problem with Sunny is that the writer/directors/editors clearly had no agreed vision on the genre. This show takes turns being: a thriller, a mystery, a comedy, a sci-fi, a violent action, and a dystopian story, which just means they cancel each other out and you're kind of left with very little, which is such a shame. Ultimately Sunny is a slow-moving drama that doesn't know what it wants.
I will see the season to the end; just sad it has delivered so little in so much time.
