I rarely post a review, but wanted to leave one for this really thrilling film. It has a great story with plenty of unguessable twists and turns. You really want to see what happens in the end and the finish is very satisfying. It's definitely the best low-budget film I have watched in the last few years and is far better than many full budget efforts, that's for sure. My advice is just to start watching it and see if it takes your interest, rather than miss out on great entertainment, because there are no big names associated with this work. I have even made a note of the director and writer's names to look for their other work! Can't believe the other reviewers didn't enjoy it - but I found it to be very well-written and will definitely watch it again in the future.
I've read several of the Ripley series and enjoyed seeing how his life progressed after his encounter with Greenleaf. Therefore, I have to say I was really disappointed with this version, which totally changes the way Highsmith portrayed him. Highsmith's Ripley is intelligent and in later stories has developed excellent taste, a beautiful and sophisticated French wife, plus some highly successful criminal businesses. So this version of Ripley struck a very discordant note with me.
I defer to those who appreciate technical aspects of this series, but compared to the whole Ripley world contained in several marvellous novels, this failed to interest me. The 'Talented Mr. Ripley' will always be my favorite movie version.
