My youngest sister and I have a tradition of watching old movies that are set in older times. "Jason and the Argonauts" was classic; she's young enough to get scared by the realistic effects of present day, so the special effects in these movies just makes her--and I--laugh. But this movie was different. It was low on the special effects, which 86ed our tradition, but we had fun watching it all the same. It was enjoyable and funny, with an easy plot to follow (which always helps when one watches a movie with a seven-year-old).
If you want my advice, watch it. You'll be entertained, even if the same idea was copied 10,000 times.

I'm going to say that I love the original. It's great. The sequels to it get a little strange, but the first one is wonderful. Now, this movie I rented to see with an open mind. I knew that they can hardly ever do better than the original when remaking a film, so they always get crap and do their best to compare.
My advice: don't compare. Sit back, relax, and forget everything you know about the first one. You may just enjoy it. I must say, a plus from the original is that the people talk. But the whole kissing the ape was just wrong.
Being a person who doesn't believe in evolution, I find I have to swallow my tongue while watching both the first one and this one. Leave your personal beliefs at the door, along with anything you know about the original, open your mind, and you may just like it.

This is my absolute favorite movie! I first watched it at a friends house last year. It was a few weeks ago I saw it again. It was a Friday night and my younger sister and I were flipping through the channels when I noticed the scene where Rick (Brendan Frasier) and Beni (Kevin J. O'Connor) are about to open fire on the approaching horsemen. I told her to hold on and explained what movie it was. Since then, I've seen it seven times on the same channel.
My male cousin enjoyed it for the action (there's some form of a lethal weapon in nearly every scene!). My sister liked it for the comedy. I myself liked everything about it; ancient Egypt has always held my interest.
It was a good movie. All the characters seemed to be given to the appropriate people.
Just one thing: why did Beni say, "Nice camel," when he himself was riding one? It doesn't make the show any worse, but that didn't make sense. I guess it's because they wanted Beni to fall off the camel, and I doubt Rick could've reached him if he was riding a horse. (should've cut the comment then, huh?)
Over all, it was great, and I don't see why so many people were complaining about the jokes. Lighten up a bit, people!
