The Naked Gun is a lot funnier than expected, but the second half is a disappointment.
The first act might be one of the best 30 minutes in a comedy films. Joke after joke and 90% of it definitely worked for me. Everything is in spirit with the previous material, but a large portion of the gags and jokes are original. But in the second act, the plot starts getting in the way of the comedy and the third act does the same thing on an even higher level. On the other hand, the third act is a Mission: Impossible movie. And I'm not saying that because I'm a huge fan of that franchise, but because it is actually intended to be a comedic version of Mission: Impossible - Fallout.
The cinematography is good, the lighting especially, but there's also some great camera movement. The editing has a few great transitions and good pacing, even though the second and third acts could've been even tighter. The visual effects are convincing. The score is my favourite element, because it's the most Mission: Impossible reminiscent element until a certain sequence, so I wasn't surprised to see Lorne Balfe credited. The casting is amazing and the two leads gave charismatic and fitting performances.
The Naked Gun is one of the funniest movies of the past decade and it fits perfectly into the franchise.
***POSSIBLE SPOILERS*** I should have expected 'Weird Al' Yankovic to appear in the movie, but Dave Bautista's cameo was completely unexpected and hilarious.

Naked Gun 33 1/3: The Final Insult is the first film in the franchise that I didn't really enjoy.
The writing is mixed, because there were funny jokes, but I can't not see that the dialogues are extremely unnatural. The situations are beyond comedic. But again, the third act saved the movie. Not only because of the better jokes and the bigger scale, but because of the commentary on Hollywood. The movie didn't really age well, because some of the sexual or race jokes don't look good today.
The opening credits cinematography is still enjoyable, I hope it's in the new one. Other than that, not much to look at. The editing is also mixed and the visual effects also didn't age well. The matte paintings are very visible. The acting is good, because without Leslie Nielsen's charisma, these movies wouldn't have the status they do.
Naked Gun 33 1/3: The Final Insult is a movie I really enjoyed as a kid, but didn't stand the test of time. Also I had no idea THAT meme was from this film.

The Naked Gun 2½: The Smell of Fear is far from its predecessor, but it's still lot of fun.
The writing is not really good. The characters are the same, which is good, but the dialogues are so unnatural. I couldn't help but notice. On top of that the line deliveries weren't good either, which would make a really bad movie if not for the jokes. The first half didn't deliver, but the second was pretty close to being as good as the first film. Although the themes are pushed in the audience's face, they were ahead of their time for sure.
The directing isn't as good as it was in the first one. Much of the acting felt forced, so what I mean is that they used bad takes. They were probably rushed and didn't have time for more takes, but they would've definitely helped the movie. Because of the writing there are boring parts, so I wouldn't blame the editing. The acting as I said wasn't what I expected, even though I've seen this one plenty of times, especially the third act, which is undeniably the best part of the film.
The Naked Gun 2½: The Smell of Fear could've been a really bad film if not for the intriguing and funny third act.
