Never mind that it's an animated movie, this really showcases filmmaking at its finest.
For starters, the animation is of such superb quality that I had to keep reminding myself that I wasn't watching real life. Yes, yes, I know, there's talking animals - but look past them for a moment and just take in the background - the sense of place and the attention to detail is just stunning.
Then there's the storytelling... never forget that film is a *visual* medium; it's not about what you say so much as what you *see*. Spielberg gets it and the people behind this movie get it too... the opening montage, for example, is a masterclass in how to introduce a disparate collection of main characters in a concise and entertaining way.
The characters are hilarious, the music is great and varied enough to appeal to different tastes, plus it's fun to look up the cast list - I didn't know Scarlett Johansson could sing! It's a funny, fast-paced, entertaining roller-coaster ride of a movie, and if you don't completely love it then you might as well give up watching movies altogether.
