There are many things I like about Fire and Ice. I enjoyed Ralph Baksi's film, Wizards, a lot more than I expected so decided to give Fire and Ice a go as well. And although Fire and Ice is more my style of story - monsters, magic, barbarians, sexy characters - ultimately I find Wizards the better film overall. Fire and Ice has a great visual element with smooth rotorscoped animation yet the story is bland and nothing new. Also, the characters are flat and mostly uninteresting with the exception of Darkwolf (who is really just Conan the Barbarian). I couldn't get into this film which is a shame as I really wanted to - it's my style! The voice acting was mostly forgettable, and with the exception of a couple lines, so was the dialouge. The character designs I can't fault too much, I think the facial features and clothing detail are lacking but body shape, muscle definition and the general ugliness of some of the characters was done well.
Final Verdict: I can't fault the animation. It's dated sure but it's done well and at times looks incredibly smooth and lifelike for 2D animation. But everything else around that is just bland and boring. I only really liked one character and the story left a lot to be desired. It does nothing new outside of the visual stuff which is also not as impressive today as it would of been in the early 80s.

I saw Galaxy Quest on its initial release. Oddly, I'd completely forgotten about it until seeing it for sale on 4K. Not sure why as lots of positive memories about came flooding back so I decided to buy it and watch it again 25 years later. And I'll happily report, it's still a fun film and mostly holds up!
Galaxy Quest clearly takes its inspiration from the real life Star Trek story, in that it was a fictional show that expanded into real life pop culture and made stars of its actors who also now can't escape it and make money by attending expos and engaging with fans who act as if the show was real. It's both a homage and parody all wrapped up in a family friendly sci-fi action adventure. The humour isn't always laugh out loud, but it's constant and I was smiling all the way through. There's also a decent shot of genuine emotion sprinkled throughout. The cast is also great, something I'd forgotten. I remember the lead three actors - peek Tim Allen, Allan Rickman and Sigourny Weaver - but the supporting cast were fantastic, some really decent names here, or soon to be big names anyway. The only thing that let's this film down is the CGI, it's looking pretty dated these days. It's not completely horrible I guess, as the CGI creatures are somewhat designed to be very basic looking anyway.
Final Verdict: Outside of some dodgy CGI, this is still a fantastic sci-fi comedy adventure that's family friendly and genuinely fun. You don't have to be a sci-fi fan to enjoy it, but you will probably like it even more if you are into Star Trek or similar shows. Honestly, check this out!
