The theme has little to do with the first movie. This is not a horror movie. It starts out feeling like a home alone movie then becomes some kind of feelgood terminator movie.

It never gets boring. It even tries out being a musical at one point. As movies go it's a good popcorn flick.

As a movie, it might be worth an 8/10 or something, but, and this is a big but - It tries to give Steven Seagal space again. And as a childhood Steven Seagal fan, this is just a big no no. Some people do things so abhorrent that no matter their life's work - they should be collectively erased from human consciousness. Steven Seagal belongs to that category, and may his career be buried 20 feet below, and a bed of sunflowers cover it forever.

The music is absolutely golden. The music video production is out of this world.

When this show is delivering it's up there with the 10/10 shows.

The characters are fun and they complement each other well. The concept is silly but it works for what they are doing.

Now off to the not so good. The low animation rate is probably an esthetic choice, but it's one that doesn't work for me. It gives the energy of a clay animation and it's not doing it any favors in my book.

Maybe it could still have been a 10 despite that, but it's hard to look away from the fact that the plot isn't delivering something "golden". At the core it feels like a villain of the week episode from sailor moon. It needed something more. Maybe it needed more time to develop the world, maybe it should have been a series instead of a movie. To reach a 10 it needs to take not just the musical storytelling, but the classical storytelling to the next level. Jinu's arc is delivered like a plot point instead of the emotional moment that it should have been. If Ketheric Thorm's delivery of his fall is a 10/10, Jinu pulls maybe a 3/10. It's just not good enough.

It's still absolutely amazing as the piece it is and I would definitely watch again.

    9/10.

  • Stumbles at the finish line

Let me start by saying that this has been by far the best show I have ever seen. The craftsmanship has been immaculate throughout the series at every step, from writing, animation and music and on and on.

This is why it hurts extra much that the final episode is everything I at first feared that the show would be. Most of the episode is spent in a long fight, naval gazing the awesomely coolness of every league character in the show, but it even fails to do that. None of the fighting moments comes close to the peak heights we have gotten used to. The score through the episode is mostly forgettable and doesn't even touch the earlier masterpieces.

The dialogue tries to convey the deep philosophies that have been driving the writers dreams, but it never touches. It's as preachy and cold as the soulless universe of a glorious evolution.

What happens at the very end is perhaps the most disappointing of all. It feels like the writers just wants to get home after a long crunch and just hurriedly checks the final checkboxes it needs to do before the next show. Moments that should have been the apex, becomes throwaway without any gravitas.

When it finally ends I join that feeling. I am just happy that the end texts are rolling and I can go home.

The animation is still so unbelievable good that I can't give the episode less than 5, and the fan service scene is a nice touch, but this show ends with a fizzle unworthy of its journey.
